Ideally, I would like to pursue an ecologist or environmental consultancy or advisory role to advance my career.

What are your talents/strengths

I have qualifications in biological sciences, including a strong researching background and diverse scientific skillset. I conducted a research project on the Great Barrier Reef, focussing on the benefits marine protected areas could have to enhancing coral cover in unprotected reefs. I have an advanced skillset in mapping, GIS, Excel, and R studio. Additionally, I have conducted field work in remote locations, including Heron Island, Curtis Island, Lamington National Park, and Spicers Hidden Vale, and am eager to continue remote travel for work. I have extensive experience with vegetation mapping and habitat-scoring, animal handling and trapping, report writing, environmental impact assessments, and working in fast paced environments within a team or autonomously. I have strong communication skills and an additional background in veterinarian nursing.

What are your interests outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy spending time in nature, going for hikes or spending time in the garden. I have lots of indoor plants and a veggie garden, a collection that continues to grow and in my spare time I enjoy caring for them. I enjoy going for runs and swimming to keep my fitness up. I am a creative person, and a hobby of mine is making wheel-work pottery.

What did you enjoy about the subjects you studied?

I enjoy a lot of practical field work and learning new skills. I particularly liked working in the marine field and doing vegetation surveys in an array of different habitats. I enjoy camera trapping, analysis and identification of footage. I also enjoy animal trapping and release, and the excitement of getting up at dawn to process the traps. A part of the subjects I remember enjoying was how to communicate and work together with different stakeholders that may have different views and goals. I find I am passionate when it comes to practical, hands on experience with nature, and face to face interactions with people. I also enjoyed research and writing up scientific reports and impact assessments. I have strong english literacy skills and enjoy writing in different formats, such as policy documents, grant proposals, EIS, scientific reports that follow journal guidelines, and press releases. I have high attention to detail and this was reflected in final marks and GPA of 6.75.
